IN MEMORY TO MY DAD LEN GRAY

My father passed away on the 5th May 2020. He will be sadly missed by everyone . His old golf club Castle Royle at Knowl Hill flew their flags at half mast for a week.. A superb gesture. dad would have been so proud.

I have posted some messages from some family friends. When this lock down is over. I am sure a few beers will be downed to celebrate his life.

Messages from Dads friends

Sad news mate sorry for your loss, please pass our condolences to your mum and the family. Your dad was a good man and certainly influenced me when it came to running my own business seeing his achievements was a factor in my inspiration. Great memories of him in your home and the factory. Oh Dave, I’m so so sorry. I can’t begin to imagine how you must feel. My thoughts and love are with you all. I know you were expecting this but that won’t ease the pain of your loss and to lose someone so close in such horrible times when you can’t be with him to hold his hand is unimaginable. As I said yesterday, I’m sure his ‘journey’these past few weeks saw him peaceful and calm and you all did all that you could for him before he embarked on this by finding him a beautiful place to be cared for impeccably and being by his side as much as you possibly could be. In my mind I can see your dear mum sitting beside him as they listened to the beautiful voice of the opera singer. They were totally absorbed and your dad looked calm and happy. Please give my love to all of the family and I will say a little prayer for you all now, especially your dear dad, who is now at peace and no longer suffering from Parkinson’s. Such a cruel disease. Thinking of you all. Lots of love xxx

Jerome

Hi Dave, I’m very sorry to hear that your Dad died this morning. It would be sad under normal circumstances, but it is doubly so the way things are at the moment. I hope your Mum is coping alright and I am sure it will help having her with you. In the last nine months we have lost John, Maureen, my Mum and now your Dad. Remarkable. You will, of course, be in all of our thoughts here in Swalcliffe and let’s hope we can be together sometime soon. Take Care, George

Dear David Jean Jacques has informed me of your dad’s passing and I am so sorry to hear this news.    The Gray and the Prévost have shared so many memories that we feel and understand your pain and sadness. We have also experienced it when we lost both our parents. Len and Dad were bigger than life and we have learnt a lot from them, especially how to enjoy life. They certainly knew how to throw a party and celebrate happy moments. My siblings and I are grateful to your family for introducing us to the customs of your country and allowing us to spend time with you all in order to practice our English. Our parents already loved England and through your parents we got to love it too. So many memories come to mind. Not long ago, I learnt of Marcel Chabernaud’s passing. Now your Dad…the 3 musketeers as they were known, are now up in heaven and rejoicing to be together again, probably with a tête de cuvée in their hand! I hope your Dad had a peaceful passing, especially in these very trying times. I’m am really very sorry David. Please send my love to the family and please let us know when your Dad’s funeral will take place so we can be with you in thoughts. Isabelle XX

HOPE YOU’LL GET IT THIS TIME JJP ———- Forwarded message ——— De : Prevost Jean-Jacques  Date: jeu. 7 mai 2020 à 14:42 Subject: Re: DAD To: Isabelle Yates , Christine Le Mat DEAR DAVID I FEEL VERY SORRY AND DEEPLY SHOCKED BY YOUR FATHER PASSING AWAY. WITH HIM GOES A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF GOOD MEMORIES WHETHER IN THE UK OR IN CHAUMONT WHERE WE SPENT TOGETHER WHAT CAN BE CONSIDERED A HELL OF A GOOD CHILDHOOD. I DONT REMEMBER THE NUMBER OF BOTTLES OF WINE AND VOUVRAY TETE DE CUVEE THAT WE ALL EMPTIED BOTTOM UP BUT I GUESS IT IS IMPRESSIVE. WHEN I THINK BACKWARD OF BOTH YOUR FATHER AND MINE TOGETHER I SEE A COUPLE OF GROWN UP KIDS HAVING A GOOD TIME FOR EVER. MY FATHER LEFT 40 YEARS AGO AND I GUESS HE FELT SO LONELY AFTER SO MANY YEARS THAT HE’S GONNA THROW A PARTY TO CELEBRATE YOUR FATHER ARRIVAL TO JOIN THE CLUB. FROM WHAT I HEARD IT IS OPEN BAR UP THERE. PLEASE TELL YOUR MOTHER THAT I SHARE HER SADNESS. SINCERELY JEAN JACQUES

Val

Frank McCormack I was very sad to learn about a true gentleman like Len Gray’s death. Len Gray was my friend Employer and treated me as one of his family. When ever I or one of my family had a problem he was the first to help and give good advice . I have known Len and Pat for over 43 years and I have never known him to be unfair to any of his employees. But a true and just employer to all. As I sit here  during this virus I will raise a glass in celebration of his life and hope in the after life we shall meet again. My condolences to Pat, David, Martin and Penny. Our regards Frank Mary John and Anne McCormack
